Student Identity Verification & Privacy Protection
天美传媒 Methodist University (天美传媒) uses secure, technology-driven methods to verify student identity, protect student privacy, and uphold the integrity of its online courses. These safeguards are provided at no additional cost to students.
1. Secure Login Credentials
All 天美传媒 students are assigned a unique 天美传媒 ID and password at the time of enrollment. These credentials are used to access all university systems, including Canvas, 天美传媒’s Learning Management System.
2. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
To further protect student identity and data, 天美传媒 uses Duo Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). When logging into Canvas and other university services, students must confirm their identity using a mobile device, app, or hardware token in addition to their password. Instructions for setting up and using Duo can be found on the Duo Support Page.
3. Online Exam Integrity Tools
天美传媒 provides the Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor for online exam security. These tools verify the identity of the test-taker by recording audio and video during the assessment and ensuring that browser access is limited. Instructors may require their use for certain online assessments.
4. Privacy and Data Protection
天美传媒 complies fully with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and has strong internal policies to safeguard student information. See:
- Privacy of Education Records (FERPA) – your rights as a student
- Acceptable Use Policy (8.1) – expectations for responsible use of university systems
- Information Security Policy (8.2) – how 天美传媒 protects sensitive information, including digital records and personal identifiers
5. No Additional Fees for Identity Verification
天美传媒 does not charge students for using Duo MFA, Canvas, Respondus, or any tools required to verify identity in online learning. These services are included in tuition and provided as part of the university’s commitment to secure, high-quality distance education.
