DALLAS (ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½) — An alarming increase in human rights violations by law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh will be the focus of a presentation and panel discussion Saturday, Nov. 23, from noon to 2 p.m. in ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½’s McCord Auditorium, 301 Dallas Hall.

“People in Bangladesh have a right to live with dignity, which is not happening,” says keynote speaker Rick Halperin, director of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½’s , one of the free public event's sponsoring organizations. “This event is meant to educate and encourage people to take action.”

WHAT:

“Human Rights Issues in Bangladesh” will address suchhuman rights abuses as the illegal detainment, torture and murder of Bangladeshis by law enforcement officials.

• Rais Bhuiyan, a Dallas-based Bangladeshi who founded World Without Hate after surviving a 2001 fueled by the events of 9/11
    
• Rick Halperin, director of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½’s Embrey Human Rights Program and three-time board chair of Amnesty International USA (keynote speaker)
    
• Muhammad A. Kalam, a Bangladeshi who has taught science at the University of Texas-Dallas and led the Bangladesh American Association of North Texas
    
• Munshi Shamsuzzaman, a Bangladeshi American entrepreneur and peace activist based in the DFW area
